Below you will find a list of certain courses I took during my undergraduate and graduate career at the University of Florida. Each course chosen for this page taught me a valuable lesson I will apply to my career and life in general.

Language and Social Interaction
Undergraduate Course
This remains one of the most interesting classes I have taken to this day. I also met my favorite professor through this course. I was immediately interested in this course based on the title, and I left the course with more awareness of my daily interactions! I now find myself analyzing conversations, which has helped me pick up on ques quickly and understand the implications of a certain action. This course taught me about everything from naming practices and adjacency pairs to body language and facial expressions.

Culture and Medicine
Undergraduate Course
This course uses the biocultural approach to anthropology and applies it to medical practices around the world. I learned about how medicine is seen and practiced in all parts of the world and how culture plays a role in it. Many medical providers in the states ignore their patients' cultures with treatment and then cannot understand why the patient did or did not do a certain thing. After this class, I have a better understanding of cultural differences in the world in regards to medicine and disease, and will take that into account with my future patients.

Second Language Acquisition
Undergraduate Course
This class will come to help me immensely when treating patients that are secondary English speakers. The class covered all aspects of learning a second language, from the biological happenings to the social effects. We even interviewed English learners and transcribed the conversations for analysis. This course will and does help me better understand English from foreigners as well as gives me understanding and patience to convey everything I need to ESL patients when I am a medical provider, and to ESL people in my community.

Hospital Practicum
Utilizing the hospital setting, our class obtained experience in performing and recording patient histories and physical examinations and presenting clinical data.
We were divided into groups and assigned a resident. from there, we visited patients and began practicing taking histories and performing exams. we presented and discussed next care steps. This was the first experience working directly with patients and was invaluable to preparing to be a PA.

Advanced Clinical Procedures
The primary objective of the Clinical Procedures course is to help PA students develop an understanding of and basic competence in the skills needed to perform diagnostic and outpatient, in-house, and emergency procedures.
In lab, we completed sutures, surgical knots, biopsies on blood oranges, phlebotomy, spinal taps, casting and other procedures we were to encounter in our rotations. This lab was not only important but very fun and helped me learn how much I appreciate procedural skills.

Clinical Rotations
12 rotations lasting four weeks. Core rotations included two rural primary care rotations, inpatient internal medicine, cardiothoracic surgery, EM, neuro ICU, pediatrics, inpatient and clinic women's health and inpatient and clinic psychiatry. I chose additional rotations in orthopedic surgery, rheumatology and heart failure.
Each rotation taught me new and exciting things and had me traveling all throughout Florida. It would be far too much to type here, but I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
